The Steamship Authority is the only ferry that carries vehicles. Advance reservations are strongly recommended, as it is the only ferry that transports automobiles and passengers to the Island.

Driving to the Steamship Authority

From Boston to Woods Hole:
Take the Southeast Expressway - Route 93 South to fork at end. Bear right, staying on Route 93 South toward Route 95. Stay on the left, as you will soon come to Exit 4. Bear left, heading toward Brockton, Fall River. Continue to Route 495 South and exit on the right toward Cape Cod. Continue over the Cape Cod Canal on the Bourne Bridge and follow Route 28 to Woods Hole.

From the Northern and Western Suburbs of Boston to Woods Hole:
Take Interstate 95 South (also known in Massachusetts as Route 128) to Interstate 93 North toward Braintree/Cape Cod. After you leave Interstate 95, get in the right lane. Take Exit 4 toward Brockton, Fall River. Continue to Route 495 South and exit on the right toward Cape Cod. Continue over the Cape Cod Canal on the Bourne Bridge and follow Route 28 to Woods Hole.

From New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island to Woods Hole:
Take Interstate 95 North to Providence, Rhode Island. Then, follow the Cape Cod indicators to Interstate 195. At the end, take a right onto Route 25 East to Cape Cod. Cross over the Cape Cod Canal on the Bourne Bridge and follow Route 28 to Woods Hole.

 


Getting to MVY - By Ferry (Passenger Only & Seasonal)


 

Ferries to Martha's Vineyard arrive from Falmouth, Hyannis, Nantucket, New Bedford and Woods Hole in Massachusetts; Quonset Point in Rhode Island, Montauk in New York and NYC, New York. All ferry companies provide paid parking if you choose to come to Martha's Vineyard without your vehicle.

Some ferry companies offer a commuter ticket at a reduced rate. For example, the Hy-Line offers a commuter book of 10 tickets (5 round trips), so if your party is of a good size, this could save you a fair amount of money!

Directions to Falmouth: Once you cross either the Bourne Bridge or the Sagamore Bridge onto Cape Cod, take Route 28 south for approximately 13 miles to the first set of traffic lights (Falmouth Hospital is on the right and Jones Road/Hyannis By-Pass is on the left). Turn left onto Jones Road. Travel through the first traffic light and at the second traffic light turn right onto Route 28 Continue on Route 28 for a ½-mile, past Falmouth Plaza on left, and bear left onto Falmouth Heights Road (Friendly’s Restaurant).
